Overheard at Booth 1: Galician and Irish

Just learned that while there are still two million native Galician speakers in Spain, there are only 40,000 to 170,000 native speakers of Irish (depending on differing statistical models).

These Celtic languages are beautiful and apart from just a national identity or some sort of romantic tie to a mythological past, they can also be utilitarian in expanding brain power (exercising the mind) which has also been known to help ward off certain types of dementia, as well as giving a person the ability to look at critical issues from different viewpoints.

We need to preserve these languages, and not just let them fade away into obscurity, leaving nothing behind of themselves other than a few vowels in Elvish to be spoken by devotees at RenFests
