The photos in the video are of Liscannor, in County Clare, Province of Munster, the Republic of Ireland - a beautiful seaside village tucked next to the famous Cliffs of Moher.  But to be honest, since the Cliffs of Moher are now gutted with tourists, most of whom will arrive by bus and then be carted off by bus, and who will imbibe in the restaurant built into the hillside next to the Cliffs, this village is perfect for the TRUE traveler who wants a break from the crowds to have a quiet walk in the bucolic scenery.   

A perfect place to come in to, after an afternoon shoulder-to-shoulder with the glut of tourists, or after a year and a day at sea!

Overheard at Table 2: Dark Places (2015)

Dark Places

I do like the movies in which Charlize Theron does not have to play the "beautiful" woman.   She is a beautiful woman, who doesn't mind playing women who are not, indeed, beautiful, neither physically nor in personality.

In this movie, she is an adult who suffered a horrific trauma when she was six years old - the brutal murder of her mother and sisters at the hand of her brother - and she has actually been living on the money that has flowed in from emotionally supportive people.   

However, she has begun to "age out" - she's in her early thirties and the money's drying up, and she's never had an actual job.  She's a hoarder, and a misanthrope.  Barely any social skills.

Then, she takes payment for rehashing her story to a group of armchair detectives, who believe that her brother is innocent.   This takes her down the road to a deep introspection regarding all that she has ever known: unpacking the story that she has retold so many times that it has actually become fact, to her.

This story seems like it could be based on true events, because the murder is definitely something that happens, and our characters are flawed (just like the rest of us).  

There are some weaknesses in the plot (such as "where did the insurance money go?" and "how did that person stay hidden for so long?") as well what might be considered a Deus Ex Machina ... or what I call "forcing the story" (don't want to give away any spoilers, but watch it and you'll see what I mean)

However, overall, it is a very good exploration into the difference between what we remember happened and what possibly really happened.   

Definitely worth watching, especially if you are interested in the more cerebral horrors of the human character.  Similar movies would be Gone Girl and Nocturnal Animals

Overhead at Table 3: On Perfection

In some sense, humans are perfect beings who never achieve their full perfection, merely by nature of their deeply imperfect choices.

However, by extension, nothing that humans ever create can be perfect. All their creations, including Artificial Intelligence, will always lack that potential of the humans to perfection.

However, in full disclosure, when I use the word "perfect" I mean in the Biblical sense, specifically in the sense of following Jesus Christ, which is best described in the letters written by the Apostle Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  Perfection, meaning simply, properly equipped to promote the Word of Salvation through Jesus Christ and presenting one's entire life, every moment, into the adequate and just glorification of the Most High God.

Non-believers may simply believe that "perfection" means "leading one's best life including the defense of just values and non-harm to other humans, animals, or the environment."   That definition is far below mine, however, it is acceptable in the context of loving and caring for all things around us.

That said: again, I assert that no AI will ever be able to live up to either definition of the standard of "perfection" ... it is possible that it may come close to the non-believer's definition, but never to the Christian Biblical sense of the word.

That is because AI will never have a soul.

But that is a conversation for another time ...

You know, some may pretend we've reached equality, but every few days, I top off my the gas tank of my wife's car, so she won't ever have to be standing at a gas pump in the dark before sunrise while on her way to work.
