like a wave of sound that

has become a low murmur, below

audibility,

and can only be felt,

                like the dull thud of the bass

                                from the box

                                                of the car

                                                                that slides beside,

driven by a whiteboy in a Red Sox cap,

wearing gold chains and a

mouth full of someone else’s attitude.

Ask not what you can do for your country,

ask what bell this country

will toll
